About

Polytype Records is a new music label established in 2021 by Jon Schorah & Ed Martin centred around their mutual love of electronic music. Together they aim to build a new hub and focus of experimentation. Modernist in outlook & future facing as the genre dictates, Polytype aims to nurture & mentor new talent as well as coaxing some of our favourite producers back to the studio.

Jon’s journey started out as dj/ producer Cedar for LTJ Bukem’s seminal Good Looking Records producing drum & bass. He further mastered his craft producing broken beats & house. He later went on to establish the plug-in company NUGEN Audio.

Ed’s search for early hardcore breakbeat & nascent jungle sounds led to his position as buyer for electronic music in a host of leeds independent music stores. His eclectic & adventurous archive of sounds have helped him become a stalwart of the local DIY scene. In 1998 he co-founded v3ctor, an electronic music & digital arts collective, curating events & promoting artists of local, regional, national & international repute.

Polytype aims to be ethical in attitude & open in its communication. Leaning on their experience working in the music industry, Jon & Ed hope to avoid the pitfalls often associated w/ this murky sector.
